Synopsis
Writer-director Hallie Meyers-Shyer wrote the lead role specifically for Michael Keaton
“I wrote it with 100 percent in mind,” she said, “so much so that if I had said no, I would have buried him and myself in the backyard.” Casablanca (1942) stands out.
Goodrich starts out a little inconsistent, but slowly finds his rhythm, especially towards the end
The film offers some exciting moments, but the first act suffers from an overabundance of exposition that feels forced and unnatural.
Unfortunately, too much time is wasted on the somewhat inconsequential dynamic between Goodrich and Michael Urie’s character (Terry), which detracts from the main plot
Instead of relying on dialogue-filled scenes, the story would have benefited from showing more of the developing relationship between Goodrich and her oldest daughter, Grace.
Also, the film struggles to balance serious moments, often punctuating them with one-note interjections that undermine the emotional impact
Despite its flaws, Goodrich manages to deliver a somewhat satisfying ending, though it could have reached deeper emotional heights with better pacing and character focus.
