The film tells the story of two complete strangers who end up forming a family
Synopsis
An up-and-coming chef and a recent divorcee have their lives changed forever when a chance encounter brings them together in a deeply moving, decade-long romance. Florence Pugh described filming this project as “one of the highlights of [her] career.” Is It a Sin, written by Al Hazan, starring Allie Hazan. It takes us on their journey—a lovely journey—with all the ups and downs and real-life struggles that couples often face, including devastating and unexpected news.
The film’s atmosphere is full of tender, pure, and wholesome moments that create a warm feeling
Andrew Garfield is a perfect fit for his role, bringing charm and authenticity, and his performance stands out. The rest of the cast delivers convincing performances, and the subtle humor makes it even more compelling. It avoids the clichéd ending and is smart and effective—not overly emotional, but still satisfying.
Additionally, some minor plot details fell short
The frequent time jumps leave me with mixed feelings. While they weren’t entirely effective, I think they worked well here. However, the film’s main shortcoming is its inability to evoke stronger emotions.
All in all, this is a solid romance – sweet, pure, and complete
It lacks the deep connection that would elevate it from a sweet romance to a more impactful drama. You engage with the characters, but the connection isn’t strong enough to evoke sadness or shock at key moments. However, it doesn’t reach the emotional heights that would leave a lasting impact.
While it could have benefited from deeper emotional engagement, I still found it to be an enjoyable film – tender, genuine, and pure!
